May was a busy month visiting and connecting with partners in East Africa. Our new Links Africa Hub in Kenya has created more opportunities to connect with partners across the region. This month Sam Walker, our regional coordinator, visited and assisted in trainings with partners in Uganda and Rwanda.

In Uganda, follow up MED training with Uganda Women Concern Ministry focused on developing methods of promoting savings and providing more structure to their loaning scheme. As well as MED, the organisation is going through some staff transition so leadership development with their staff was carried out. The training focused on the character and behaviours of both leaders and the team that can help to ensure effective communication and efficient collaboration towards their agreed vision.

Esther said this about the Links training: "We are going to now use this approach. You know it is so exciting, the way it (the Links Training) is. It is not like other trainings where you just pump people with knowledge, it is so participatory and I am very exciting about the impact of this training."
Sam then spent a few days in Kampala with our long-term partners Wellspring in Kampala before heading on to Rwanda. In Kigali, there was opportunity to meet one of our newest Act4You account holders, through CRED, named Good News of Peace and Development for Rwanda. It was fantastic to hear about their programmes and projects that work intensely with families that were fractured since the 1994 genocide, with their activities focusing on different vulnerable groups like widows, prisoners and homeless youth.

We are seeing that Kenya is an excellent travel hub location for our work with partners to grow - we are pleased with how the new Africa hub opportunity is developing.

Stepping into Ghana for the very first time felt like walking back into the roots of Links International’s story. It was here, over 40 years ago, that our founders Norman and Grace Barnes first connected with inspiring missionaries and began building the partnerships that would shape Links’ mission.

In Malawi over a decade ago, in a small rural community, Links took a chance on what many thought was just a fad - moringa trees, sensationalised at the time as 'Miracle Trees'. Packed with vitamins and minerals, edible for both humans and livestock, fast‑growing and hardy in hot climates, these trees seemed to have real potential.
