As you may know, Cyclone Freddy was one of the most powerful and long-lasting storms ever recorded in the Southern Hemisphere. With more than 500 people having been killed, hundreds still remaining missing and thousands of homes having been destroyed, it is estimated that 2 million lives have been impacted in some way by this cyclone.

Thanks to your generous donations, we were able to provide immediate relief to some of the most vulnerable people in the aftermath of the cyclone. Together with VIBITAC, FESODEV, and Flood Church we have been responding to the immediate needs of the people affected by the cyclone.
They were able to:
- Distribute thousands of simple meals to displaced families.
- Provide 150 emergency relief packs that included weeks' worth of food and items for basic shelters.
- Offer psychosocial and spiritual support and counselling to those who have lost so much.
Links partners' work does not stop there, as we are now focusing on mid-term to long-term interventions that will help the communities recover and rebuild their lives. Some of the activities they are planning include:
- Planting winter crops in residual moisture to harvest in June 2023. This will provide food security and income for the farmers who lost their crops due to flooding.
- Building temporary housing for key households that are willing to relocate to higher and drier areas away from the Shire river. This will reduce their exposure to future floods and diseases, as well as offer opportunity to rebuild a new life in a safer environment.
- Holding sensitisation meetings with key stakeholders and communities on relocation. This will help them understand the benefits and challenges of moving to a new place and facilitate their integration into new communities.
We are grateful for your continued support and prayers for our brothers and sisters in Southern Africa. Together, we can make a difference and show them that they are not alone.
Thank you for being part of our Links family!
