Returning to India: Reconnecting, Equipping, and Envisioning the Future

October 31, 2025

After several years of travel restrictions and heightened sensitivity due to persecution, it was a great joy to return to India this October. The trip marked a significant moment of reconnection with long-standing partners and exploration of new opportunities for growth and collaboration.

Strengthening Foundations

The first leg of the journey was in Uttar Pradesh, focusing on reviewing ongoing initiatives; micro-enterprise development, leadership training, water projects, and emergency relief. It was encouraging to see these programmes continuing with strength and clarity, especially in rural and underserved communities.

A key focus was the leadership transition of one of our core partner organisations. The founder, after decades of faithful service, is preparing to hand on the baton in 2026 and has been mentoring a capable team to carry the vision forward. Plans are in place for the business and pastoral dimensions of the work to be led by trusted individuals already embedded in the mission. The organisation remains strong, with skilled and dedicated workers overseeing its various operational areas. We are excited for the future and praying for our partners as they make this transition.
New Connections and Pastoral Encouragement
From there, I travelled south to Goa state to connect with a community-based organisation working in education, vocational training, and micro-enterprise development. Their work among slum communities is both compassionate and strategic, and they maintain a vibrant network of churches across two states.

A highlight of the trip was a three-day pastors’ conference, which brought together over 150 village pastors from remote and often persecuted areas. Many had never left their local region, and some had never seen the sea. The conference was a deeply moving time of spiritual encouragement, practical input, and mutual support. We’ve received an abundance of positive feedback, and it was a privilege to invest in the lives of these faithful leaders.

Vision for Links India
This trip confirmed the growing need for a regionally rooted Links India presence. Across the country, our partners are expressing a desire for deeper connection, shared learning, and mutual support. In a climate of increasing persecution, the call to stand together has never been more urgent.

We envision a regional base that mirrors our African model, operating under the UK head office, guided by our shared vision and values, yet responsive to the local context. This base could also serve as a hub for partners in neighbouring countries. These are still early days, and we hold these plans with open hands.

Please continue to pray with us for wisdom, provision, and unity as we take the next steps.

With gratitude and hope,

Joe Gisbey
