Fresh Connections in Kenya

March 28, 2024

Links Africa's new hub has only just begun but there have been some fresh connections building up between our regional bases in Kenya and organisations. Sam, our Africa Region Coordinator, tells us more about these connections:

"A new location for our Links Africa base and hub in Kenya means new exciting opportunities to connect with old partners and potentially develop new partnerships. In March, I travelled to Kisumu, western Kenya, to connect with two organisations: Integrity Centre for Youths (ICY) and To Kenya with Love (TKWL).

ICY was a new connection made in 2023 through Pioneer International, doing some amazing work with vulnerable youths promoting leadership, community and empowerment through discipleship, business and sports. Together we explored opportunities for sustainable and holistic programmes to bolster their ongoing impact.

TKWL was a previous connection from 2016 where Links carried out some MED training in partnership with their Primary School. They have come a long way since the training growing and expanding their vision to empower parents of their vulnerable students to develop small businesses. I heard from the borrowers in these MED groups and they expressed how they were thriving in their businesses and particularly the mums were saving and increasing their social capital with other women in the community.

Another connection was closer to our Links Africa hub in Embu. In fact, so close that I could even walk there! One of our established partners in Malawi, Seeds of Promise, connected us with Youth Promise, a youth focused ministry that focuses on empowering youth in IT skills and knowledge to further their higher education. Neither organisation knew where our new hub would be located and we were all thrilled when we realised their newest location for the programme was beginning in March, and only 8km from the Links Africa hub.I believe these fresh connections underline the strategic and God timed move to Kenya. Pray with us for these connections to grow and develop.

Partnering with the Local Church for Global Impact

Every so often, we get a moment to step back and join with close friends and partners to see the bigger story we’re part of. Links Sundays with our Church partners is one of those moments. It reminds us that mission isn’t something a few specialists do 'over there', it’s the calling of the whole Church, the whole people of God, joining His work of restoring shalom on earth as in Heaven.
