Growing Hope in Nepal

June 1, 2026

In the hills of Nepal, a community is restoring more than land- they are rebuilding their future. From degraded land to growing hope, this is what community-led change looks like.
Land Under Pressure
In the hills of Ramechhap District, Nepal, families have long relied on the land to sustain their livelihoods. In recent years, however, soil degradation, unstable slopes, and the impact of wildlife destroying crops have made this increasingly difficult. These challenges don’t just affect harvests - they put pressure on families, limit income opportunities, and challenge long-term resilience within the community.

Last year, Partnership for Sustainable Development (PSD) Nepal responded with a locally-led vision: restoring the land while strengthening livelihoods. With funding brought together through Links International, our supporters, and significant contribution from the community themselves, trees were planted - not just as an environmental solution, but as a step towards renewed stability and confronting the local impacts of the global climate crisis.
A Community Taking Root
Today, that vision is growing. PSD and local farmers have planted 1,000 fruit-bearing and native trees, with over 95% of seedlings thriving. As they establish, they are stabilising the land, reducing crop loss, and creating foundations for future income.

This work is 50% funded and owned by the community, with women, young people, and farmers working together to care for and develop the land. Building on this success, PSD are now preparing to plant a further 5,000 trees in 2026, expanding this work into a new community.
Growing Together
At Links, we are inspired by partners like PSD Nepal, whose leadership is rooted in their communities. Projects like this show how restoring the environment and livelihoods go hand in hand.

Support our Climate and Sustainability Fund today. £5 can help plant a fruit-bearing, native seedling.
